Moscow threatens to strike UK factories, former Russian deputy minister ‘semi-military response cannot be ruled out’

(Adnkronos) – Russia threatens to strike British factories producing drones and missile components for Ukraine. Moscow, in fact, after yesterday’s green light from Prime Minister Andy Burnham for sharing with Kyiv the technology needed for the manufacture of Storm Shadow cruise missiles in Ukraine, accuses the United Kingdom of “participating in the war”. Former Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and close to the Kremlin, Andrey Fedorov, told ‘BBC Newsnight’ that Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin is under “very strong pressure” from “politics” and “public opinion” to “take certain measures against the United Kingdom”. And these measures, he explained, “could involve a verbal reaction but perhaps also some concrete reaction”. Among the possible forms of response, Fedorov cited a “technical reaction”, such as cyberattacks conducted by unidentified sources, specifying that they would not officially come from the Russian state. But that’s not all. The former Russian Deputy Foreign Minister also did not rule out “a possible semi-military response” that could target “factories and companies producing drones and components for missiles for Ukraine”.

Hackers could also target, according to Fedorov, “specific companies” involved in the production of drones or components for Storm Shadow missiles, the British version of the Scalp. Fedorov argued that by allowing the transfer of technology to Kyiv for missile production in Ukraine, Great Britain has become “much more involved” in the war. “Moscow considers the British Prime Minister’s initiatives as direct military involvement in this conflict,” he added.

Fedorov’s statements, the ‘Daily Mail’ recalls, came after Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Monday that “Great Britain is participating in this war” alongside Ukraine. According to Peskov, the United Kingdom “methodically and regularly fuels the fire” and works just as systematically to prevent any progress in the peace process. The Kremlin spokesman also stated that the Russian armed forces intend to identify “the production sites of such missiles” and “the production sites of other military equipment” with the aim of destroying them. Burnham, however, declared that the United Kingdom will not reduce its support for Ukraine against Russian aggression, calling Moscow’s threats against Great Britain “outrageous”.
