Tokyo, Aug. 25 (Jiji Press)–The Japan Meteorological Agency plans to extend daily weather forecasts from seven days to two weeks by 2030. The agency hopes the extended information will help people prepare earlier for disasters as concerns over more frequent extreme heat and heavy rainfall are growing amid global warming. An expert panel set up by the agency for discussions on advanced meteorological information compiled a report including the longer weather forecasts by Tuesday, citing recent improvements in forecast accuracy. The report also called for extending to two weeks the agency’s early warning information, which currently covers five days ahead and indicates the likelihood of warning-level heavy rain or snow.
