(Adnkronos) – At least nine people have died and several others were injured in a fire that broke out today in a hotel in Kolkata, India. “Nine people, including a child, died in the fire that broke out in the early hours of Wednesday,” Anuj Sharma, director of the West Bengal state fire department, told AFP, adding that “dense smoke enveloped the hotel and some victims were found in the bathrooms.” According to initial information, an air conditioner in the budget hotel may have exploded, causing the fire.
Anuji Sharma also reported that nine people, six men, two women, and a child, were rescued and taken to the hospital. In total, 60 people were in the hotel when the fire broke out.
