(Adnkronos) – 12,800 people are unable to return to their homes following the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck the Indonesian island of Flores on Saturday morning, causing the death of at least 54 people. This was stated to AFP by Berton Suar Pelita Panjaitan, spokesperson for Indonesia’s national disaster management agency (BNPB).
Residents in the area are afraid to return home due to over 1,600 aftershocks that have affected the area, according to the BMKG geological agency. Many residents are camped in makeshift tents with tarpaulins and poles and only return home to get essentials: water, clothes, and then spend the night in a tent.
