North Korea, Pyongyang condemns joint South Korea-US exercises’

(Adnkronos) – North Korea has condemned the joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea, calling them “more provocative than last year’s.” Pyongyang’s state news agency (Kcna) quoted the Foreign Ministry as saying that “military cooperation between the United States, Japan, and South Korea is transforming into a nuclear alliance, and the country will respond to a new level of threat with a new level of deterrence.” South Korea and the United States will conduct their annual joint military exercises between August 17 and 27. Furthermore, North Korea accused the United States of “promoting a new nuclear strategy” that lowers the threshold for the use of weapons and could push global security “to the brink of nuclear war.”
