(Adnkronos) – The American ambassador in Tokyo stated that he recognizes Japan’s “sovereignty” over the Kuril Islands, visited yesterday by Russian President Vladimir Putin and disputed with Japan. “The United States maintains unwavering support for Japan, its most important ally, and recognizes its sovereignty over the Northern Territories,” George Glass said on X, using the Japanese name to refer to the Kuril Islands visited for the first time yesterday by Putin. “As Japan and the United States work together, within the framework of their alliance, to promote prosperity throughout the Indo-Pacific region, we strongly oppose any action that could undermine peace and stability in the region,” he added.
