(Adnkronos) – The Sudanese capital Khartoum, for the second consecutive day, is targeted by drone attacks launched by paramilitaries. An Afp agency journalist and witnesses reported this.
Since April 2023, a conflict has been ongoing in Sudan, pitting the Army against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Khartoum has been targeted by drone raids in the past. Yesterday, the RSF launched a large-scale coordinated drone attack targeting five cities controlled by the Army. Today, they also launched a counter-offensive southwest of Khartoum, along the road connecting the capital to El-Obeid. Fighting was reported in Jabret al-Cheikh and Bara. An Afp journalist in Khartoum reported surface-to-air missile launches from Omdourman, Khartoum’s twin city. Witnesses from central Khartoum and Khartoum Bahri spoke of drones in flight and explosions.
“The Army’s air defense responded to the militia’s drones and shot them down,” a military source told Afp. Another RSF attack was reported in Kurmuk, a city on the southeastern border with Ethiopia, which has been back in Army hands since last month. The military source spoke of what he considers the latest offensive “from Ethiopian territory.” Addis Ababa denies hosting RSF units.
