Tokyo, Aug. 10 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 stock average on Monday briefly rose back above 67,000 for the first time since July 23, buoyed by robust investor appetite for artificial intelligence-related stocks. The index of 225 major issues listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s Prime section finished the day up 1,363.51 points, or 2.07 pct, at 66,970.22. The broader TOPIX index was up 25.68 points, or 0.63 pct, at 4,100.61 after briefly surpassing its all-time closing high of 4,101.96 marked last month in intraday trading. Semiconductor-linked issues and other AI names attracted buying on growing expectations that the U.S. Federal Reserve will hold off on raising the policy interest rate for now, after Friday’s release of weaker-than-expected U.S. jobs data. Investors also snapped up shares in companies that recently released rosy earnings reports, such as job information provider Recruit Holdings, which surged 22.79 pct.
