Tokyo, Aug. 6 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 stock average dived over 1,300 points Thursday morning, due to selling of artificial intelligence-related issues including semiconductor names. At 10:46 a.m., the index of 225 major issues listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s Prime section stood at 64,942.07, down 1,358.37 points, or 2.05 pct, from Wednesday’s closing. The tech sell-off came on the heels of an overnight drop of the tech-heavy U.S. Nasdaq Composite Index. On the Prime section as a whole, however, rising issues are outnumbering losers. A wide range of issues are attracting buying interest thanks to receding inflationary pressure following a drop in crude oil prices, an official at a major securities house said.
