Mexico: influencer shot dead live on TikTok

5 Agosto 2026

(Adnkronos) – Mexican influencer César Gastélum was shot dead while broadcasting live on TikTok. The murder occurred last night, as he was filming a video with two friends outside a fast food restaurant in Tres Ríos, in the northern city of Culiacán, when two men on a motorcycle approached and one of them shot him at point-blank range. Gastélum had over half a million followers on TikTok and mainly uploaded comedic videos. This is not the first time a social media influencer has been killed in Mexico. Last year, 23-year-old Valeria Márquez was shot dead in a beauty salon while broadcasting live on TikTok.

During the live stream, Gastélum and his friends were wearing bright orange jackets and bags, typical of delivery drivers. Local media reported that initially, the victims’ attire led police to believe they were delivery drivers, but authorities were later informed of his true identity. Police and forensic experts have cordoned off the area and are examining shell casings and surveillance camera footage for clues. So far, no arrests have been made. The two people on the motorcycle fled the scene.
