(Adnkronos) – A bus plunged into a ravine in Algeria, causing the death of 25 people. Another 44 people were reportedly injured. This was announced by the Algerian Civil Protection. The accident occurred on Friday morning, when the bus, for reasons yet to be determined, went off the road and plunged into a ravine in the Boumerdès region, 50 km east of Algiers. Civil Protection specified that its teams intervened at 9:40 AM (8:40 GMT) to provide assistance to the victims.
In July 2023, 34 people lost their lives in a collision between a bus and a commercial vehicle, followed by a large fire, near Tamanrasset, in the far south of Algeria. In August 2025, a bus plunged into a ravine near Algiers, causing the death of 18 people, and in December of the same year, 14 people died when the bus they were traveling on overturned in the Béchar region, in the southwest of the country.
During 2025, 3,838 people died and over 37,000 were injured in road accidents (26,976 accidents with injuries in total, with an increase of 2.68% compared to the previous year), according to Algerian road safety authorities.
