(Adnkronos) – The Czech Republic is set to experience another extreme heatwave in the coming days, as temperatures will exceed 35 degrees Celsius as early as tomorrow, and could reach 40 degrees in some places on Friday. This was reported today via social media by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (Chmu).
Over the weekend, the weather will cool down slightly, especially in Bohemia, but according to current models, temperatures will again exceed 35 degrees at the beginning of next week. Nights will also be tropical, with temperatures not dropping below 20 degrees.
Even at the end of June, exceptionally hot weather prevailed in the country. During that period, for the first time in history, the temperature in the Czech Republic exceeded 41 degrees. A new temperature record was set: on June 28, 41.9 degrees Celsius were recorded in Doksany, in the Litomerice district, in northern Bohemia.
“Even last year, few Chmu meteorologists would have bet that the temperature would reach 40 degrees Celsius this summer. And no one would have bet at all that this could happen twice during the summer. We are experiencing a truly exceptionally hot summer,” said Chmu meteorologists.
According to them, this morning was the last for a long time with relatively refreshing temperatures and a slight frost on the Sumava plain. Temperatures will rise between 29 and 34 degrees; it will be cooler in the northeast of the country, around 27 degrees.
“As early as tomorrow we will see temperatures above 35 degrees; Friday will be the hottest day, with temperatures close to 40 degrees. It is possible that in some locations exceptionally high temperatures of up to 40 degrees will be recorded,” notes the Chmu.
Over the weekend, the weather will cool down slightly, especially in Bohemia, where temperatures will hover around the 30-degree mark. In Moravia and Silesia, however, the thermometer could still reach 35 degrees on Saturday and Sunday.
According to current forecasts, as early as the beginning of next week, when temperatures will start to rise again, another wave of exceptionally hot air will reach the Czech Republic.
“On Monday and especially Tuesday we could again see temperatures exceeding 35 degrees, and it remains to be seen if this will continue in the following days. Further model results will clarify this. What is certain, however, is that in Moravia and Silesia, for example, it will once again be a very long and very intense heatwave,” concludes the Chmu.
