(Adnkronos) – Haiti’s electoral authorities announced on Monday that presidential and legislative elections will be held at the end of the year, provided that “an acceptable security climate is established”: a daunting task for the Caribbean nation, devastated by gang violence. The first round of the different consultations is scheduled for December 13, 2026, while the runoff is set for February 21, 2027, according to the electoral calendar released by the Provisional Electoral Council. The Council stated in a communiqué that “the observance of these deadlines depends on the creation of an acceptable security climate.” Elections have not been held in Haiti since 2016.
