Popular Novelist Keigo Higashino Dies at 68

Tokyo, July 27 (Jiji Press)–Popular Japanese novelist Keigo Higashino died of colorectal cancer in the early hours of Thursday. He was 68. Born in the western prefecture of Osaka in 1958, Higashino made his novelist debut while working as an engineer after graduating from Osaka Prefecture University, a predecessor of Osaka Metropolitan University. His debut novel, “Hokago” (After-School Hours), won the Edogawa Ranpo Prize in 1985. He later won the Naoki Prize for “Yogisha X no Kenshin” (The Devotion of Suspect X) and the Eiji Yoshikawa prize for “Inori no Maku ga Oriru Toki” (The Final Curtain).
