(Adnkronos) – Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos said today that it might be time for his country, hard hit by the oil shock caused by the conflict in the Middle East, to reconsider nuclear energy.
“Perhaps it is time to reconsider nuclear energy production,” Marcos said in a televised speech. “We will ensure it is safe” and “that the benefits of nuclear energy are adequately illustrated,” he added.
About 30% of the Philippines’ crude oil imports pass through the Strait of Hormuz, while the rest comes from Asian refineries that in turn depend on Middle Eastern oil.
