Tokyo, July 27 (Jiji Press)–The dollar slipped to around 163.50 yen in Tokyo trading Monday after the United States and Iran paused attacks on each other, raising optimism over the Middle East conflict. Yen purchases became dominant as “dollar buying at a time of emergency” waned, market sources said. The Japanese currency was bought also because a slide in oil prices helped to ease concerns over Japan’s widening trade deficit. As of 5 p.m., the dollar stood at 163.52-52 yen, down from 163.76-76 yen at the same time Friday. In Tokyo stock trading, the benchmark Nikkei 225 index rose 320.04 points, or 0.49 pct, to end at 64,931.19. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
