(Adnkronos) – Italy’s foreign ministry is joining forces with Lebanon’s health ministry and the United Nations migration agency (IOM) to improve crucial healthcare measures at key border crossing points in the war-battered country, the embassy wrote on X, reposting an IOM tweet on Friday.
“Stronger border health systems for safer communities. With support from @ItalyMFA, , IOM & @mophleb are enhancing health measures at key border crossing points across Lebanon to strengthen emergency preparedness, improve screening and referrals, and help prevent disease outbreaks,” read the post.
Over 1.2 million people have been displaced in Lebanon and more than 12,000 have been injured since the escalation Israel’s conflict with Iran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah in March. Hundreds of thousands of civilians remain continuously displaced or face displacement due to ongoing hostilities and destruction of residential buildings, according to the United Nations.
A ceasefire announced by United States President Donald Trump on April 17 has not stopped Israel’s attacks and as the months of conflict continue to devastate communities across Lebanon, families are being left without shelter, healthcare and other essential services, according to the UN.
