France, pesticide derogation, Environment Minister announces resignation

22 Luglio 2026

(Adnkronos) – “I have no other choice but to hand in my resignation. Either you are a minister or you are not.” Monique Barbut, French Minister for Ecological Transition, said this, announcing her resignation to President Emmanuel Macron after parliament approved the reintroduction, in the form of a derogation, of certain pesticides authorized in the European Union but previously banned in France. The text, which Barbut had opposed, provides that the health agency (Anses) can “within 2 months and exceptionally” allow a derogation from the ban on the use of the 2 pesticides acetamipride and flupiradifurone.

The decision does not yet seem to be final. “If my resignation is accepted, I will leave. If it is rejected, it depends on ‘what and how it will be said’,” Barbut added.
