UK, Russia sees ‘no hope’ for better relations with Burnham

21 Luglio 2026

(Adnkronos) – The Kremlin sees “no hope” for an improvement in relations between the United Kingdom and Russia under the new British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who is openly in favor of supporting Ukraine. “We have no such hopes,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov replied to a question about the possibility of an improvement, recalling that one of Burnham’s first actions “was to issue statements expressing support for Ukraine and, consequently, his intention to do everything possible to continue the war.”

Russia considers the United Kingdom one of the most hostile Western countries, with relations at an all-time low due to a litany of issues, including a high-profile case of poisonings on British soil linked to Moscow, in addition to London emerging as one of Kyiv’s main supporters since the outbreak of the war. Yesterday, Burnham spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, stating afterwards that he had informed him that “there would be no change” in London’s policy on Ukraine and that “I would be with him 100%.”
