(Adnkronos) – Greece, so far spared from the scorching temperatures that have hit Western Europe, is preparing for its first summer heatwave, with temperatures set to rise up to 42 degrees, according to Ert, the Greek public television. Exceptionally high temperatures are expected in most of the country until the day after tomorrow, with highs reaching 42 degrees in Thessaly, central-eastern Greece, and the Peloponnese, according to Ert.
The Greek Red Cross has urged citizens to take precautions against extreme heat, such as avoiding prolonged sun exposure, staying well hydrated, and paying particular attention to vulnerable individuals such as the elderly, young children, and those who work outdoors.
The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection yesterday convened the risk assessment committee, warning that temperatures will exceed 40 degrees in many inland areas by Wednesday. The Ministry added that emergency services will remain on high alert during the heatwave and urged citizens to avoid activities that could trigger forest fires.
