Tokyo, July 17 (Jiji Press)–Seven & i Holdings Co. is considering spending several hundred billion yen to acquire a stake in Zabka Group SA, Poland’s largest convenience store operator, people familiar with the matter said Friday. Through the investment, the Japanese convenience store giant aims to expand into Eastern Europe, where it does not have stores, as part of efforts to strengthen its overseas operations. “While it is true that we are in discussions regarding investment in Poland’s largest convenience store chain, no decision has been made at this time,” Seven & i said in a statement. Established in 1998, Zabka Group operates about 13,000 convenience stores in Eastern Europe. Seven & i run about 22,000 stores in Japan and some 65,000 stores overseas. Its overseas presence is primarily in Asia and North America, while its European operations are limited to Northern Europe including Denmark and Norway. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
