(Adnkronos) – The internationally recognized Yemeni government has declared that it hit the capital Sana’a’s airport after a dispute related to the arrival of an Iranian plane carrying a Houthi delegation, the Shiite rebel group supported by Tehran that controls the capital and much of the north of the country. Initially, the Houthis had attributed the attack to Saudi Arabia, claiming that “the Saudi aggression hit the runways of Sana’a International Airport”.
“The Houthi terrorist militias, supported by the Iranian regime, prevented Yemeni national planes from landing at Sana’a capital airport, insisting instead on allowing an Iranian plane to violate Yemeni territory; consequently, the airport runway was targeted,” the Yemeni Ministry of Defense stated.
The Defense Minister of the recognized government, Taher al-Aqili, stated that the authorities “will respond appropriately” to what he called a violation of Yemeni airspace by Iran and the Houthis. The President of the Yemeni Presidential Council, Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, also denounced “repeated violations of Yemeni sovereignty,” accusing the Houthis of having acted “outside the legal and sovereign frameworks governing civil aviation” and of being responsible “for this escalation and all its consequences on the security and stability of Yemen”.
