Lebanon, Beirut sources: ‘cautious optimism on Rome negotiations’

13 Luglio 2026

(Adnkronos) – Lebanon views with “cautious optimism” the sixth round of direct negotiations with the Jewish state mediated by the US, scheduled for tomorrow in Rome. This is reported by the online version of the Qatari newspaper Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed, citing official Lebanese sources.

The sources spoke of “significant” American attention to the negotiations, stating that “Washington is able to exert strong pressure on Israel to remove the obstacles and difficulties placed on the ground.”

“Coordination,” the sources emphasize, “is ongoing from multiple sides, especially with the Americans at a diplomatic and military level. Communication is constant between President Joseph Aoun and the army commander, General Rudolphe Haykal, to keep pace with preparations for the deployment of the Lebanese army in pilot areas concurrently with Israel’s withdrawal.”
