(Adnkronos) – The Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway, and the resumption of free and safe passage is in the interest of all countries. This is how Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian commented in Beijing on the new tensions between Iran and the United States in the Strait of Hormuz.
During the press briefing, Lin stated that “the Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway” and that “the resumption of free and safe passage serves the interests of all nations.” The spokesman then added that the issue of transit in the strait “should be handled appropriately.” The statements come after the Iranian ambassador in Beijing announced the introduction of new tariffs for ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, specifying, however, that China and other “friendly” countries will benefit from “special considerations.”
