(Adnkronos) – Lebanon has asked Israel to withdraw from two “pilot zones” in the south of the country as a condition for participating in a new round of talks scheduled in Rome on July 15 and 16. A diplomatic source told Afp. Previously, the Lebanese broadcaster Mtv, citing its own sources, had said that the Lebanese government had obtained the necessary guarantees from the United States to participate in the negotiations in Rome.
Israel and Lebanon have managed to conclude an agreement on negotiations with Washington under the auspices of the United States, providing for the Lebanese army to be deployed in the south of the country, subject to the disarmament of Hezbollah, starting from the “pilot zones” from which the Israeli army will not withdraw.
