Ankara, July 8 (Jiji Press)–Defense chiefs from Japan, Australia and New Zealand on Wednesday affirmed the importance of the three nations’ cooperation for the stability of the Indo-Pacific region. At their meeting held in Turkey on the sidelines of a NATO summit, Japan’s Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi, Australian Minister for Defense Industry Pat Conroy and New Zealand Defense Minister Chris Penk also exchanged views on an improved version of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force’s Mogami-class frigate. New Zealand is considering the possibility of introducing the upgraded Mogami as its next-generation frigate. Earlier in the day, Koizumi held a bilateral meeting with Conroy.
