(Adnkronos) – Six people “suspected of having played a role” in starting fires in the south of France have been arrested by the gendarmerie. This was announced by Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez in a post on ‘X’. “The State’s response will be relentless against all those who, voluntarily or through imprudence, endanger our territories, our fellow citizens, and those who protect them,” the minister stressed.
The fire in the Eastern Pyrenees, which affected 4,900 hectares near Perpignan and caused the evacuation of 12,000 people, did not spread during the night. Other fires are ongoing in Drôme, Gard, and Hérault.
