Venezuela, 4 police officers arrested for looting in earthquake zone

(Adnkronos) – Four Venezuelan police officers have been arrested for looting in the area affected by the double earthquake that devastated the country. This was announced by the Ministry of Justice on social media, after videos of officers caught in the act by enraged residents went viral. 

“A group of officials, ignoring their duties and taking advantage of rescue operations and humanitarian assistance, acted indecently by appropriating valuable goods found among the rubble,” the Ministry of Justice wrote in its statement, emphasizing that the officials have been dismissed and handed over to justice. Widespread looting and theft occurred following the earthquake.
