Tokyo, July 1 (Jiji Press)–New automobile sales in Japan from January to June rose 1.8 pct from a year before to 2,387,189 units, mainly driven by the launches of revamped models, industry data showed on Wednesday. Toyota Motor Corp., Daihatsu Motor Co. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. boosted their sales with popular models. Mitsubishi Motors’ Delica D:5 minivan sold well after undergoing its first major redesign in about seven years. On the other hand, new vehicle sales remained sluggish at Nissan Motor Co. Minivehicle sales climbed 1.3 pct to 856,776 units, while sales of larger vehicles grew 2.0 pct to 1,530,413 units, according to the data from the Japan Automobile Dealers Association and the Japan Light Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Association. In June alone, new auto sales increased 8.6 pct from a year before to 426,883 units, marking the third consecutive month of growth. Mazda Motor Corp., which fully redesigned its CX-5 flagship SUV model, fared well, as did Toyota and Honda Motor Co. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
