Mexico, car into crowd during World Cup celebrations, at least 17 injured

(Adnkronos) – At least 17 people were injured overnight in Cabo San Lucas, a renowned tourist destination on Mexico’s Baja California peninsula, when a vehicle crashed into a crowd celebrating the Mexican national team’s victory against the Czech Republic in the third World Cup group stage match. According to the municipality of Los Cabos, cited by Nbc News, the car was reportedly surrounded by a group of people and, for reasons yet to be ascertained by the competent authorities, suddenly struck several attendees. 

All 17 people involved received medical treatment, including the vehicle’s driver, who was arrested. The interim mayor of Los Cabos, Jose Manuel Larumbe, expressed “the deepest solidarity with those affected and their families” and assured that the public would be constantly updated on the developments of the investigations.
