Italy continues to be at the forefront of support for Ukraine – Tripodi

(Adnkronos) – Italy remains “at the forefront” of international support for Ukraine, its future recovery and reconstruction, continues to give civilians health and emergency treatment and to help with demining the war-stricken country while remaining commmitted to supporting the energy sector and households this winter as well as nuclear safety, foreign undersecretary Maria Tripod said Thursday

“Italy continues to be at the forefront of support for Ukraine and its path to recovery and reconstruction,” Tripodi told the G7+ meeting in Gdansk, Poland on support for Ukraine’s energy resilience.

“Italian civilian aid involves activities in the fields of health, emergency response and mine clearance,” Tripodi added.

Acting on behalf of foreign minister Antonio Tajani, Tripodi also took part in Ukraine Recovery Conference ministerial meeting.

The meetings were an opportunity to take stock of the coordination of international assistance for Kiev, with a particular focus on support for the Ukrainian budget for 2026–2027, the European Union candidate country’s reconstruction and economic recovery, the implementation of reforms and the strengthening of private investment, according to a foreign ministry statement.

The Donor Platform, established by the G7 in 2022, brings together partner countries and international financial institutions that account for over 98% of the international economic assistance provided to Ukraine.

Tripodi reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to supporting the Ukrainian energy sector, noting that Rome has been a member of the G7+ Coordination Group on energy resilience since its inception, a mechanism that has played a key role in coordinating the international response to the repeated Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Among the latest initiatives is the package of measures to help Ukraine during the winter of 2025-2026. Particular attention has also been paid to supporting the nuclear sector and repairing the New Safe Confinement at the Chernobyl plant the southeast of the coutry – Europe’s largest – which was built with significant contribution from Italian industry and was severely damaged by a Russian drone attack in February 2025, the statement noted.

Tripodi also addressed a meeting with the large business delegation and representatives from Italy’s main private business lobby Confindustria, export credit agency Sace, investment agency Simest and state lender CDP which the embassy organised alongside Thursday’s two events.
