(Adnkronos) – Donald Trump suddenly canceled today’s scheduled signing of a construction bill, stating that he will not do so until Congress approves the Save America Act, the law aimed at imposing greater controls and limitations on the electoral process, which the president wants to see passed at all costs. “The press conference and signing are therefore canceled until the desperately needed Save America Act, which I consider a national emergency, is approved,” he wrote on Truth Social.
The move comes amid tensions between Trump and Republicans who, in response to Trump’s pressure to pass the bill aimed at changing electoral laws in all states, requiring voters to prove their identity and American citizenship, say they do not have the votes to overcome the all-out obstruction that Democrats are threatening in the Senate against the bill.
The construction bill that Trump was supposed to sign today aims to lower housing costs by increasing the number of homes built and limiting the ability of large investors to purchase individual homes. Republicans are banking on this measure to argue, ahead of the midterm elections, that they have committed to fighting the cost of living.
