Ebola, Kenya orders halt to construction of quarantine facility for US citizens

23 Giugno 2026

(Adnkronos) – Kenya has ordered a halt to the construction of an Ebola quarantine facility managed by the United States. This was stated by the country’s Health Minister Aden Duale after being accused in court of contempt for ignoring a previous order to suspend the work. “I have ordered the immediate and complete cessation of any planned construction, site preparation or related activities concerning the facility at Laikipia air base pending the hearing and decision on the petition or until further orders from this court,” Duale declared.

The United States was building the quarantine facility in case they needed to evacuate their citizens from areas affected by the Ebola outbreak, which began last month in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The construction of the facility had raised numerous protests among the population.
