(Adnkronos) – Andy Burnham has been sworn in at the House of Commons as MP for Makerfield, following his victory in last week’s by-election. As reported by the BBC, Burnham was greeted with an ovation from the Labour benches upon entering the House of Commons.
Burnham then exchanged pleasantries with the Speaker of the House of Commons, Lindsay Hoyle, and during the swearing-in, he was accompanied by Knowsley MP Anneliese Midgley, co-manager of his by-election campaign. Now that he has been sworn in, he can officially present himself as a candidate for prime minister in place of the resigning Keir Starmer.
