Tokyo, June 16 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s benchmark Nikkei average reached the 70,000 mark for the first time ever on Tuesday. The index of 225 selected issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s top-tier Prime section rose as high as 70,020.68, up 703.18 points, or 1.01 pct, from the previous day’s close, shortly after the start of the afternoon session.
