Abbas announces Palestinian Authority presidential elections in early 2027

(Adnkronos) – Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, 90, has announced that presidential elections will be held in early 2027. This was reported by the official Palestinian agency Wafa.  

“President Mahmoud Abbas announced that the presidential election will be held in 2027,” Wafa stated, specifying that the vote is scheduled for the early months of the year. Abbas, elected in 2005 after the death of Yasser Arafat, has not clarified whether he intends to run again. The decree also provides for legislative elections to be held by the end of 2027.
