(Adnkronos) – Canada intends to participate as an observer in the joint project of Japan, the United Kingdom, and Italy for the development of the sixth-generation fighter jet (Gcap). Japanese government sources reported this, stating that Tokyo’s Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi is expected to visit the United Kingdom for the Farnborough International Airshow, which will begin on July 20. During the visit, he might meet with British Defense Secretary John Healey and Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, discussing Canada’s potential participation in the project and announcing it on that occasion. An observer country will be able to access sensitive information, such as the progress of the fighter project, to prepare for its eventual large-scale participation or future purchases of the aircraft, even if not directly involved in the development process.
