Tokyo, June 10 (Jiji Press)–Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and her Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, on Wednesday affirmed their cooperation to ensure stable supplies of liquefied natural gas from Malaysia to Japan amid tensions in the Middle East. At their meeting at the prime minister’s office in Tokyo, they also agreed to cooperate on securing stable supplies of petroleum-related products, including raw materials for chemical fertilizers. Malaysia accounts for about 15 pct of Japan’s LNG imports, second only to Australia. Noting that Japan and Malaysia will mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2027, Takaichi said she wants to further deepen the bilateral ties the two countries have built together. Anwar said that a friendly relationship under a comprehensive strategic partnership is of great significance. The two leaders also exchanged views on the situation in the East and South China seas, where China has been expanding its maritime presence, as well as on the situation in the Middle East. They agreed to strengthen cooperation to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
