Tokyo, June 10 (Jiji Press)–Japanese sporting goods maker Asics Corp. said Wednesday that it will spin off its Onitsuka Tiger sneaker brand business on Jan. 1 next year. OT Group Corp., an Asics unit, will take over the brand, which is expanding overseas rapidly and is popular among visitors to Japan. Asics will transition the brand to “a more independent operating structure” to “enable faster decision-making and enhance the creation of competiveness,” the company said.
