Tokyo, June 9 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 stock average temporarily climbed over 1,000 points on Tuesday morning. At 9:12 a.m., the index of 225 selected issues listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s top-tier Prime section surged 1,017.83 points, or 1.59 pct, from the previous day to 65,042.43. On Monday, the index fell 2,563.52 points, or 3.84 pct, from Friday to close at 64,024.60. The rebound was driven by buybacks of mainly semiconductor-related stocks, which had come under strong selling pressure on Monday. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
