Mideast: Italy deplores deadly attack on Kuwait City International Airport

5 Giugno 2026

(Adnkronos) – Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani has strongly condemned the deadly drone attack on Kuwait City International Airport, allegedly by Iran, expressing his sympathy for all the victims and their families.

“These attacks are totally unacceptable and are contrary to any attempt to bring peace and stability to the region,” a foreign ministry statement cited Tajani as saying on Friday.

“It is essential to prevent any further escalation,”Tajani underlined.

“I call on Iran to choose the path of dialogue and negotiation. Only through de-escalation, with full respect for the sovereignty of states and international law, will it be possible to build a lasting peace,” he said.

Kuwaiti authorities said one person was killed and over 60 were injured following strikes that hit the country on Wednesday which heavily damaged a passenger terminal at its international airport, wounding dozens and briefly closing the air field. It was the first deadly attack in the Gulf since a shaky ceasefire came into effect on 8 April.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) denied responsibility for the airport strike, claiming the damage was caused by an error from a US missile interceptor, an allegation denied by US Central Command.
