Tokyo, June 2 (Jiji Press)–Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi met with leaders from island nations in Tokyo on Tuesday, calling for cooperation on climate change and maritime issues. During the meeting with Palau President Surangel Whipps Jr., Tuvaluan Prime Minister Feleti Teo and other leaders, Takaichi said that daily lives in Japan and other island nations are deeply dependent on the marine environment and that cooperation with like-minded countries is indispensable in addressing climate change and ocean-related issues. She also mentioned the renewed free and open Indo-Pacific initiative, announced last month, emphasizing the importance of the rule of law at sea.
