(Adnkronos) – A federal judge has temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s $1.8 billion fund linked to the so-called ‘anti-weaponization’. Nbc News reports that the order was issued by Alexandria federal judge Leonie M. Brinkema, following an appeal filed by a former prosecutor involved in the January 6 cases and other parties who sought to block what critics call a “slush fund” intended for political allies.
The term ‘anti-weaponization’ refers to the political stance promoted by Donald Trump against what he calls the alleged instrumentalization against political opponents by federal agencies such as the Department of Justice, FBI, IRS (US Internal Revenue Service), and intelligence services. The stated goal is to correct abuses and restore the neutrality of federal institutions. In this context, the $1.8 billion fund, financed with Treasury resources, is intended to compensate people who claim to have been victims of “judicial warfare” and political persecution.
According to the order, the government will not be able to carry out any operations on the fund – including transfers, evaluation of requests, and disbursement of funds – as long as legal proceedings are ongoing. Former January 6 prosecutor Andrew Floyd, among the signatories of the appeal, denounced a system “illegally created” to favor “political allies” and penalize those who worked on the investigations into the Capitol assault.
