(Adnkronos) – Large seizures of cannabis in France this week. Almost 2.7 tons of narcotics, mainly cannabis resin, were seized in the port of Sète, in the south of the country, and over one ton of cannabis was found in a container coming from Le Havre, the Public Prosecutor’s Office announced today. The first case has links to Morocco.
In connection with the first case, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Lille, in northern France, entrusted the Gendarmerie with a preliminary investigation into an international drug trafficking network. The investigation focused on the import of cannabis from Morocco, first by sea and then by land. The operation, conducted simultaneously in four locations in France, led to the seizure of almost 2.7 tons of narcotics, mainly cannabis resin, transported in a vehicle upon its arrival at the port of Sète, the Public Prosecutor’s Office stated.
Two people were arrested and placed in pre-trial detention: the driver of the vehicle and an individual identified by investigators as a possible logistical coordinator of the network. In the other case, on May 19, seven people were arrested while unloading a container in the port of Le Havre, as announced by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Inside the container, investigators seized 1.1 tons of cannabis packaged in heat-sealed bags, 30 kg of cannabis pollen, and 78 kg of cannabis resin, hidden in boxes of clothing.
