(Adnkronos) – Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani proposed a “defense industrial compact” among NATO allies to strengthen cooperation in the defense and security sectors at a closed-doors meeting of the Europe’s five leading military power and defence spenders (E5) along with Turkey, the Netherlands, and Sweden, he said on Friday.
“We Italians are in favor of developing strong industrial relations in this sector with the United States, but also with Turkey, the United Kingdom, and other Nato countries, as well as with those of the G7,” Tajani said.
Tajani was speaking at a press briefing in Helsingbord, Sweden, where he is attending a Nato foreign ministers meeting.
“We should establish a defence industrial compact – that is to say an agreement for the defence and security industries with the United States within the (North Atlantic) Alliance,” Tajani added.
