Japan’s Emperor Meets with U.N. Chief Guterres

Tokyo, May 21 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s Emperor Naruhito has held a meeting with U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. The Emperor paid tribute to Guterres during their 15-minute meeting Wednesday for his long-standing efforts for peace, according to the Imperial Household Agency. Guterres said that Japan is making a significant contribution not only to world peace but also to development cooperation through the Tokyo International Conference on African Development, or TICAD, and other forums. At the end of the meeting, the Emperor expressed his hope that Japanese people will continue to contribute to the United Nations, according to the agency.
