Japan Rejects Remilitarization Claims by China, Russia

21 Maggio 2026

Tokyo, May 21 (Jiji Press)–The Japanese government on Thursday rejected claims by China and Russia that Japan is accelerating its remilitarization. The claims, included in a joint statement issued by the two countries’ leaders on Wednesday, are “completely groundless,” Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Masanao Ozaki said at a press conference. Ozaki emphasized that Japan has consistently upheld freedom, democracy and the rule of law since the end of World War II, contributing to global prosperity, and will remain a peaceful nation. Meanwhile, Ozaki noted that China’s growing military and economic pressure on neighboring countries is “a matter of serious concern for the international community, including our country.” He also condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as “an outrageous act that undermines the very foundation of the international community.” END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
