Japan Jan.-March GDP Up Preliminary 0.5 Pct

Tokyo, May 19 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s gross domestic product in January-March grew 0.5 pct from the previous quarter after price and seasonal adjustment, the Cabinet Office said in a preliminary report Tuesday. The preliminary reading represents a 2.1 pct annualized rise. The annualized figure beat the median estimate of 1.7 pct growth among 19 think tanks surveyed by Jiji Press.
