(Adnkronos) – The Chinese ambassador in Tehran reiterated Beijing’s “clear and unequivocal” support for Iran. The Isna agency reports that Zhong Peiwu stated that, “under these circumstances,” it is difficult to distinguish which countries are truly friends of China, adding that “we are ready to play a role in the reconstruction of the Iranian side, not only in bilateral relations, but also on the international stage and in the defense of justice.”
The statements come less than a week after US President Donald Trump’s visit to Beijing, where he met Chinese leader Xi Jinping for a two-day summit. In particular, differences emerged between the official versions released by Washington and Beijing regarding the importance attributed in the talks to the Iran dossier and the Middle East: while American communication gave ample space to the topic of regional conflicts, Chinese communication mentioned it only marginally.
