(Adnkronos) – The government’s recently inked ‘roots tourism’ project will also pay for a roof that is to cover the roof of Italy’s main tennis stadium in Rome, foreign minister Antonio Tajani posted Friday on X, writing: “sport also unites everyone of Italian descent”.
“With the roots tourism project, we will also fund the roof of the Central Tennis Stadium. Sports also unites all Italian descendants around the world,” Tajani wrote.
“The extraordinary turnout of these past weeks in Rome to attend the Italian Open is a source of great pride,” Tajani added.
Tajani and tourism minister Gianmarco Mazzi on Wednesday opened the signing ceremony fo the ‘roots tourism’ initiative that aims to bolster ties with some 80 million people worldwide who are of Italian descent or origin and to attract them to visit Italy and the villages, towns and cities where they or their ancestors came from.
The initiative is being funded by the government’s Development and Cohesion Fund.
